2001 Mariah Z212 Shabah Description
Mariah’s Z212 Shabah, paired with MerCruiser’s 350 MAG MPI, had us convinced that the words “bowrider” and “performance” can be used together.
The combination had us thinking there was a 454, not a 350, under the hatch. Below the waterline, 20 degrees of deadrise allowed the Mariah to do an admirable job of cut-ting through a one- to two-foot chop, but really excelled in our slalom manoeuvres, particularly at speeds ranging from 25 to 45 mph.
Mariah has worked hard at establishing itself as one of the industry’s premium quality builders. The Z212’s fit and finish is on par with other high-end manufacturers, but when it comes to interiors — specifically the helm area — Mariah is arguably the best in the trade. Sitting
at the helm of the Z212 is like sitting in the driver’s seat of a luxury automobile.
You will be equally im-pressed with the look and functionality throughout the Z212’s interior. Load-bearing seams are triple stitched, and beneath the light beige up-holstery , Mariah makes use of multi-density foams — soft for comfort, firmer for support. Both bucket seats in the sport interior package swivel; the lucky helmsmen gets elec-tric adjustment fore and aft.
The full compliment of Faria white-faced gauges are enhanced with gold bezels; the Z package includes a large fluxgate compass. I did find the MerCruiser throttle mounted lower than I would like; with the throttle lever pushed to the max I found myself reaching further away from the steering wheel than I prefer.
The in-floor carpeted storage area is large enough to hold a wakeboard, as well as skis and accessories. Storage under the rear cockpit seat is both easy to access and sizable. Smaller storage areas are found along both combing panels and in both the driver and passenger consoles.
Instead of a single ram to raise and lower the padded sun lounge, Mariah installs two Hatchmaster electric lift systems. They employ an over-ride system that lets you manually lift the combination sun lounge/engine hatch
and also lowers manually when there is downward force placed on the rams.
Mariah sport boats are both distinctive and attractive. The low-profile tinted windshield compliments the modest freeboard of the hull and blends nicely with the rounded deck and hull. The passageway from cockpit to bow section is wide enough for adults.
On the back end, Mariah standard equipment includes a ski eye, a combination rope-locker/cooler and stainless-steel engine vents. The Z pack-age adds a transom-mounted tilt switch and a battery charger port. Also notable was the “Indy” stainless-steel fuel cap located at starboard, away from the swim platform.
It’s clear the Mariah Z212 is targeted at the upscale buyer who puts equal emphasis on luxury and performance. With a choice of nine two-tone colour options plus eight solid-colour options, you will spend your time decid-ing colours, not options. That’s because the Mariah Z series has one of the most extensive standard equip-ment lists you’re ever going
    to find.
