Starcraft Marine has been building boats for well over 100 years and has a broad spectrum of models available fishing boats, runabouts and pontoons. This equips them well to provide stylish and versatile boats regardless of which official category a model may fall into.So when a boat manufacturer with such range and depth in its lineup tells you a specific model is one of its most popular, you know theres a pretty good reason (or a few) behind it. In terms of Starcrafts Limited 1915 OB deckboat, the driving force behind its popularity is certainly the features and benefits it offers buyers at the price point. Plain and simple, boat buyers get an awful lot of bang for their buck with this boat. And given the recent shape of the economy, getting the most for their hard-earned cash is likely at the top of any boat buyers must-have list.At an even 19 feet long with an 8-foot, 6-inch beam, the 1915 is definitely on the lower end of the size spectrum when it comes to boats, but Starcraft has maximized the usable space through thoughtful design and practical features. There are three different ways to enter this deckboat via the boarding ladders at the bow platform and stern or the side step to port. The bow ladder is particularly nice for pulling into the shallows and letting the kids out to swim. True to deckboat fashion, there is loads of space on board for guests. With seating for up to 10, the Starcraft 1915 will ensure no one is left at the dock. There are benches to both sides up front, with the portside bench stretching almost completely back to the transom thanks to the sink being combined with the helm console. The upholstery throughout is 35-ounce vinyl featuring self draining foam for added durability. The cockpit is also self-draining to help keep the interior dry, even in rough water. Since there are sure to be plenty of passengers, Starcraft has equipped the 1915 with a full fibreglass liner with snap-in carpet, removable bow table with integrated cup holders and lots of storage, including a pull-out cooler under the portside bench and an in-floor locker. Not forgetting whos going to be taking the brood out for water sports or cruises around the lake, the 1915 has a really eye catching drivers console. Obviously pulling its design inspiration from race cars, the helm features domed gauges, a custom tilt wheel and an optional aerodynamic windscreen. And with an adjustable flip-up bolster for both high and low position, the driver will always be comfortable without sacrificing visibility of instruments or passengers. To make sure buyers have whatever they need for their chosen activities for fun in the sun, Starcraft offers a host of options to customize to use. Such options include ski tow and wake tower for the sports enthusiasts, as well as an aerated baitwell, rod storage and removable fishing seat for anglers. With it time to hit the water, we were anxious to see how the Limited 1915 OB would perform in particular, how the dihedral hull design would stand up when put to the test. Much touted for the stability offers, we were not disappointed as the 1915 provided a nice, smooth ride. It also kept the boat calm while putting along at idle. But we didnt stay still for long. The 150-hp, two-stroke Mercury OptiMax had us out of the hole and up to 20 mph in 3.42 seconds. At all speeds acceleration was pretty impressive, as you could feel the Merc biting and providing plenty of power. Settling nicely onto plane, the 1915 cruised comfortably between 21 and 31 mph (at 3000 and 4000 rpm, respectively) and topped out at 47.3 mph at 5500 rpm. Definitely contributing to increased speed, the high power-to-weight ratio of the OptiMax will increase the money in your wallet as well due to its great fuel economy.Overall handling was good, as the boat turned sharply (despite the wide beam of the deckboat design) and was very responsive. By its nature, the openness of the boat does not lend itself to foul-weather days, but it will provide lots of fun for those hot summer days.Deckboats are great do-anything vessels as they offer the best of all that boating has to offer. You can go fast and then take the kids tubing, and you still have room for friends and family to tag along. Throw in a few options and you also have a functional fishing vessel. With all of this and a very competitive price tag, the Starcraft Limited 1915 OB is sure to tick all the important boxes on just about every boat buyers shopping list.
