Campions flagship Allante 925 express cruiser is not new to the market. But thanks to forward-thinking features and design elements, the boats appearance and performance are still current.
For 2010, Campion freshens up the 925s interior by offering white laminate as an alternative to the standard wood veneer finish. Its a finish preferred by some of the companys European clients, but the way it brightens the cabin could make it popular in Canada too.
After introducing the new option at its dealer meeting late last summer, the company also made it clear it is open to other suggestions. With less pressure on production, the company is prepared to customize interiors on the 925 to meet specific customer demands. The white laminate combined with warm chocolate brown-coloured fabrics now in vogue is a good option. The décor alternative will be a good addition to a boat that has proven performance and a cruise-friendly layout.
One of the 925s less visible but significant attributes is Campions well-proven Apex hull. By combining a 20-degree deadrise at the transom with a double concave pad aft and well-placed strakes, the hull expands high-pressure zones to deliver fast planing, great top speeds and sharp handling.
On the water, the Apex hull translates into top speeds of about 45 mph with twin 5.0-litre V8 stern drives and speeds of up to 50 mph with twin 5.7-litre engines. Cruising speeds from 30 to 45 mph with either power package are no problem. At 30 feet, the 925 is nimble enough to offer handling that is more reminiscent of a sport boat than a sizeable express cruiser.
In the cockpit, the 925 has plenty of comfortable outdoor living space, with a double-wide helm seat and a lounge on the companion side with a wet bar aft. On the starboard side aft, theres a U shaped seating area that can double as an outdoor dinette by installing a small table. A transom door and passageway to port lead to a small moulded-in swim platform and the wider extended swim platform.
Below decks, the cabin is wide open, giving an added sense of space and comfort. The mid-cabin tucked under the open-tread companionway stairs and the angled forward berth provide ample sleeping space. The portside galley has plenty of room to store food. The head has its own porthole for ventilation and has easy-clean finishes.
Campion thinks the new combination will have wide appeal. But its also open to other suggestions.
