Although the Cruisers Yachts 390 Sports Coupe is the smallest of the companys four hardtop express cruisers, designers have done a nice job with its scale and proportions. The cockpit has a rather unique layout with an L-shaped bench seat flowing across the transom and up to the helm, which is flanked by a central helm companion seat that can convert into a small lounge area.
Other cockpit amenities include a sink with pressure water, an icemaker on the portside, a refrigerator drawer in the helm seat base, and dedicated bottle and glass storage built into the back of the helm companion seat.
A fold-out step is required to reach the tall helm seat, but the fully adjustable bucket seat with bolster provides excellent visibility sitting or standing.
Front and centre on the helm is a generous area for electronics. Principle engine gauges are placed above and 12-volt system switches are to starboard.
The fixed glass of the sport coupes hardtop makes the optional cockpit air-conditioning desirable, but the four-foot sunroof provides great ventilation and opens up the access to the windshield walk through Cruisers offers two cabin layouts for the 390. Our tester had the standard layout with the mid-cabin replaced by a Flexsteel settee aft, which easily converts to a berth with a curtain for additional privacy.
The galley has cherry veneer cabinets and solid surface countertops. Appliances include a combined microwave/coffeemaker, Nova Kool refrigerator/freezer, ceramic cook top and a single stainless sink. The head has a solid surface and cherry vanity, recessed lighting and a separate shower stall.
Forward, the master stateroom on our tester had the optional solid bulkhead and door, and an angled double berth with good storage under the berth.
The twin Volvo IPS 500 Gas pods, which enable great confidence at the docks with joystick control, are based on 8.1-litre 375 hp V8s. The 390 planed in 12 seconds and topped out at an impressive 41.2 mph.
