Regal is well known for designing and building its performance and luxury yachts based on customer input. The impact real boaters have had on the 4060 is evident throughout this hardtop express cruiser.
The aft cockpit seating is L-shaped with plenty of storage hidden away under the cushions. Aft of the helm is the refreshment centre with sink and pressure water, trash locker, icemaker and a marine stereo. The forward cockpit has a lounge which can seat six. Dropping the table top and adding a filler cushion converts the seating into a sun lounge.
The helm is comfortable, with a double-wide adjustable seat with flip-up bolster and a five-position tilt steering wheel. The instrument panel includes custom Regal instrumentation, Raymarine depth finder, GPS and VHF, and an optional radar/chartplotter.
Access forward to the large foredeck is via a walk-through windshield. At the bow, lockers hide the windlass and bow roller, anchor wash down, water fill and windlass breaker. Regal has struck a nice balance between the size of the cockpit and the spacious, nicely laid out salon. There is a large sofa with two recliners that converts to an extra berth and offers a great view of the entertainment centre. The adjacent galley features a 7.5-cubic-foot refrigerator/freezer, Corian countertops, electric stove and a microwave hidden in the upper cherry cabinets.
The mid-cabin is perfect for guests with twin berths that convert to a queen. It has a stand-up dressing area that includes a vanity with sink and private access to the second head and shower.
The forward stateroom has plenty of storage including two cedar-lined hanging lockers with courtesy lighting, its own entertainment system and a queen berth with innerspring mattress. The large forward head features a curved acrylic shower door and a private entrance from the forward stateroom.
Our test 4060 was powered with twin 375-hp Volvo IPS500G gas V8s that kicked this 40-foot Regal onto plane in 13.4 seconds and topped out at just shy of 40 mph. The pod drives along with the modified-V Ocean Trac hull proved to be an excellent handling and riding combination at any speed.
