2010 Smoker Craft Pro Angler 172 Description

    By: Matt Spencer

There is a reason why fishing is very popular amongst young families. It provides hours of quality time together at a great low price. It gets families out on the water making connections and, hopefully, catching fish!

Smoker Craft gets this because they themselves have been a family company for over 40 years, so they know the importance of a quality built boat, filled with features at a great price. The 2010 Smoker Craft Pro Angler 172 is a great example of this.

At 16 feet, 8 inches, the Pro Angler 172 can be towed by almost any sized vehicle, but there’s plenty of room and stability for safety with a beam well over seven feet. The interior is carpet lined to cut down on the noise and there’s plenty of storage in each gunwale. There’s more storage in the bow along with a 25-gallon livewell. This boat is ready to fish.

But it’s the little features that get me about this boat. Five keels and a hydra-lift V hull on the 172 get you out of the water quickly – from 0 to 20 in 4.32 seconds, actually – and keep the ride extremely dry.

The paint is urethane and part of a twice baked process to avoid scratching and peeling. These build practices also contribute to the very quiet ride. At a comfortable cruise of 31 mph at 4000 rpm, we registered a mere 94 dbA at the helm.

The 115 E-TEC was a strong performer as well, hitting a top speed of 44.5 mph at 5700 rpm. The BRP iCommand gauges were also a nice touch.

What better than a company built on family values to get you out on the water fishing? The Smoker Craft Pro Angler 172 is certainly the boat to get on the water with, offering pro features at a weekend warrior price.
