2010 Sea Ray 310 Sundancer Description

    By: Mike Gridley

Known for innovative design and industry-leading features, Sea Ray works hard to maintain its position in the express cruiser category. To see what the future holds, we took a look at a 2010 Sea Ray 310 Sundancer.

The all-new 2010 model sets itself apart from the 2009 boat that shared its name, starting with the cockpit layout. The full-width transom seat and sun lounger to port can be connected with a removable cushion, which also provides access to the concealed battery switches.

The refreshment centre to starboard comes with an electric grill, refrigerator, fold-up cutting board and a locker with trash receptacle.

At the transom, there is storage locker, a wet locker in the swim platform and a locker for electrical and water hookups, as well as a remote for the stereo system and a hot and cold water shower. The double wide helm seat, which back flips to three positions, offers a good view of the uncluttered set of gauges. The Raymarine plotter is offset to port with all of the key 12-volt switches below it, uniquely protected from accidental bumps. Equipped with Mercury’s SmartCraft technology, the 310 has digital start buttons instead of ignition keys and the Digital Throttle and Shift System.

Heading below, you will really notice the new 310 is not the same as the old. While nicely laid out and equipped, this model now has a combined V-berth and dinette with seating for four. Immediately to port is the galley, with additional storage cabinets and the electrical panel to starboard above a small dinette that could be reconfigured to expand the V-berth. Rounding out the accommodations is a complete head and a mid-cabin best suited for children.

Getting underway, the 310 lifted onto plane gracefully with minimal bow rise, reaching 20 mph in 6.9 seconds from idle. With just a little trim input, the hull was set for efficient cruising and carving some impressive turns. Accelerating to top speed, the twin MerCruiser sterndrives pushed the Sundancer to 47 mph at 5000 rpm.

With the Digital Throttle and Shift controls set to docking mode, close manoeuvres were pleasant but not the “walk-it-sideways” capability you’d enjoy if you opted to equip the 310 with Mercury’s Axius system.

Sea Ray has done an excellent job of packing a lot into the 310 Sundancer to ensure plenty of comfort while on board, and the captain will certainly appreciate the smooth power and effortless control of the MerCruiser sterndrives with DTS.
