Sport boat owners want it all â plenty of space, amenities and performance. To this, Chaparral says âSureâ with its Chaparral 264 Sunesta.
This is a big time bowrider and a major sport boat rolled into one. Both the roominess and sportiness start at the moulded swim platform, which has a hidden boarding ladder to starboard, handy tow line storage to port, and transom controls for both the trim and stereo. A spacious aft rumble seat expands into a full-sized sun pad big enough for two with the flick of a switch.
Walking through the starboard gate into the cockpit area, we find a refreshment centre with a 78-litre under-counter cooler, a large countertop and a wet bar sink with an extendable hose.
While your guests relax on the large L-shaped lounge to port, a removable table for snacks side mounts to protect everyoneâs toes. Another side mount position is available in the bow, where there is additional seating large enough to stretch out â and automotive-style armrests for added comfort. And when nature calls, the entertainment continues thanks to a flushing head in the passenger console.
Due to its wide beam and high freeboard, the 264 offers plenty of storage space under seats, in floor and in the helm console. In fact, I could stand upright in the storage under the cockpit lounge seats with the space coming nearly to my waist! The helm console door also locks into place across the walkthrough for protection if the wind kicks up. Simply close the windshield and everyone in the cockpit is protected.
Preparing to put this serious sport boat to the test, I easily adjusted my seat with the lever located conveniently just below the armrests â no searching below the seat! The sleek and stylish dash boasted square-trimmed gauges split to either side of the wheel for easy access.
Out on the water, the 496MAG used its massive torque to muscle the 264 to 20 mph in just five and a half seconds. Once up on plane, the Kevlar reinforced hull â part of a quadradial lamination system â offered up a quiet and stable ride. Our test boat cruised at a comfortable 3500 rpm at 37.7 mph and topped out at 53.1 mph at 4800 rpm.
If youâre looking for a big sport boat with the features you need to entertain a crowd, both at anchor and at 30 mph, the Chaparral 264 Sunesta might just be a perfect fit.
