Zodiac has always been praised for its pioneering in design and innovation. Constantly ahead of the curve, theyve definitely gained an impressive reputation worldwide. I have just as much praise to offer after looking at the lineup for 2010 and, more specifically, the Medline Sundream. In particular, Im tipping my hat to their design.
Zodiac has taken your standard tender RIB and made it stylish and chic. Of course, theres still the great performance and practicality that has come to be expected, only this time theres white and blue vinyl seats and two-toned tubes.
Offset to starboard, the helm on the Medline Sundream sports a sleek white and stainless wheel while providing sizeable storage below and access to the built in fuel tank. Directly in front of the helm is a cushioned seat with padded back rest.
In terms of practicality, there are three large in-floor lockers, which mean you can bring plenty of gear and not lose space on board.
On the water, performance is similar to other Zodiacs of the same size and I mean that in a good way. Theyre so much fun to drive, especially when the seas get rough. On test day, we were hitting two footers on Lake Erie and the Medline Sundreams V-hull sliced through them while the tubes kept the boat stable.
Turns were sharp at any speed and it was quite a riot to just keep turning and turning or go full lock to lock turns. Just as much fun was going wide open throttle, hitting 38.1 mph on GPS and bouncing along the entire way.
But Zodiacs always have been and always will be fun to drive; now they look particularly great doing it. The white and blue colour scheme, both inside and out, is stylish and more exciting than your classic grey. And the contemporary design practices in the interior add another new flare to owning a RIB. Now its more than just a utility boat, its a fashion statement.
