Die-hard Yamaha fans dont have a lot to choose from
in 2001. Yamaha Motor Canada is bringing only three personal watercraft
into the country. Good thing the intrepid trio covers all of the bases.
Theres the two-seater GP1200 for riders who crave high-performance,
the XLT1200 for three-up recreational tours, and the super-sized SUV
1200.
The SUV is phenomenal when it comes to dimensions, accessories and rider appeal. This machine is almost 13 feet long and five feet wide, with a seat stretched far enough to fit four. With a 135 hp, 1,131-cc engine providing the juice, and its 815 lb. hull planted firmly in the water (the progressive, stepped-draft, deep-V design provides impressive stability), the SUV can merrily tow two skiers without a second thought. Theres a whopping 441 litres of storage capacity on board, more than enough space to stash away wetsuits, tow ropes, and even slalom skis or wakeboards. Two full-length compartments run up the sides of the machine. Theres room for lunch and some liquid refreshments in the cooler under the split seat.The bow storage compartment offers more space.
When under way, the SUV is always on its best behaviour thanks to its five-position Quick Shift Trim System. You can trim the big boat to get peppy acceleration and a smooth ride in all conditions. The trip will also be remarkably quiet, with the Yamaha Sound Suppression System.
