2001 Boston Whaler 160 Dauntless Description
I will blow my budget to buy what I want, rather than just make do with a
better-priced but somehow less-appealing product. So, naturally, I believe cottagers, especially island-bound ones, need two boats-one for ferrying and fishing, the other a ski boat. Never did I think one boat could cater to all your cottage needs.
    Until now.
The Boston Whaler 160 Dauntless doesn’t come cheap, but it’s a real bargain when you consider its multi-purpose capabilities. It looks great too, very classy in its pristine white gelcoat.
Without a doubt, the 16-footer seems ready for anything. And if you don’t see an accessory you want, chances are you can order it as optional equipment.
For example, the Dauntless makes a great fishing platform. There are folding rod racks against the coaming; a molded-in backing for a trolling motor; a reversible pilot seat so that you can face aft to fish; plus plenty of space to move about the boat. Not enough equipment to suit you? Order
the optional fishing package. You’ll get tackle drawers, removable fishing seats, rod-holders in the transom and much more.
The Dauntless can also do double duty as a ski boat. Those folding rod racks can hold skis instead. There’s a stainless-steel swim ladder for easy entry. Now all you have to do is order the ski pylon.
Tired of trying to please the whole family? Just appreciate the 160 Dauntless as is. It’s a comfortable runabout with safe seating for four, plus room for two more when needed.
The double-width pilot seat is well-padded and features handy storage
underneath. The kids will enjoy the twin aft quarter  seats. Their low position makes you feel like you’re just skiing along the water’s surface, but there are grab-rails galore to keep passengers secure.
Ferrying extra guests to the cottage? One can sit on the cooler seat in front of the console. The 54-quart cooler has a cushion and a backrest.  Another brave soul can ride up in the bow. It’s padded, and there’s even draining storage underneath.
Powered by Mercury’s 90 Four-Stroke, you’ll have no trouble getting to your destination. Between Boston Whaler’s unsinkable guarantee and Mercury’s performance track record, the odds are definitely in your favour.
With a 40.9 mph top speed, the Dauntless will get you to the cottage in good time. The no-feedback steering system seems a little stiff, but it will likely prevent you from over-steering in an emergency situation.
The boat adopts a bow-high stance out of the hole, but quickly settles down when you hit plane around 3,000 rpm. No matter what your speed, the 16-footer feels secure in the water. It’s another great selling point.             Nobody in my family views me as practical, but if I brought this boat home, as I would so like to do they’d have to change their tune. The Boston Whaler 160 Dauntless is sure to please the masses, no matter their age or interests.
