2007 Princecraft Super Pro 186 SE Description

For those who don't want to make any
compromises, Princecraft has built the
Super Pro 186 SE.
For 2007, the SE interior appointments are
designed to be as luxurious as your car. At 18 feet,
6 inches in length, 46 inches deep and with an
almost eight-foot beam, this is a boat that can handle
pretty big water in comfort. At the same time,
with the Mercury Verado it can handle a familysized
load, pull waterskiers or fly up to almost 50
mph. On top of that, the aluminum construction
helps keep the weight down to make it trailerable
behind many minivans so you don't have to pay
SUV gas prices to take everyone on a great summer
vacation with the Princecraft Super Pro 186
SE.
Princecraft started off with a serious fishing
boat and then laid on the luxury appointments.
When you order the optional SE package you get
bow coaming pads, a Lowrance X52 fish finder,
recessed cleats, a tilting sport wheel and a 208-watt
stereo that is MP3 ready and equipped with Sirius
radio. Three richly upholstered swivel bucket seats
are included for six bases and there are clever flipup
jump seats in the stern casting platform, so you
can seat five people in the cockpit with space for
more in the bow.
The bow area on our test boat is finished as a
raised casting platform and has an anchor storage
area, handy cargo netting, storage for two deep
cycle batteries, an ice chest and an electric-fill, aerated,
64-litre live well. There is also a seat base in
the removable floor section to turn the boat into a
bowrider.
The Super Pro 186 SE also comes with a 24-
volt MotorGuide trolling motor, remote engine tilt
switch and removable bow light.
The aft casting platform includes a 64-litre,
electric-fill live well, more dry storage and the main
battery. The gunwales are wider and stronger this
year for mounting downriggers.
From the helm and companion seat positions,
you look right through the middle of the high,
curved glass windshield. The instrument arrangement
is impressive and the multi-function instruments
are really useful. However, tilting the wheel
to certain positions can block the view of the
instruments. As well, the breaker panel is located
under dash so it's not as convenient to access and I
would have liked an angled footrest for fast driving
in rough water.
Luckily, numerous rails or grab handles are
included. The Mercury Verado had a 14-inch by
19-inch Vengeance SS prop and I felt the performance
was excellent. The 186 SE could accelerate to
20 mph in under four seconds and had a beautiful
cruising speed of 3500 rpm doing 22.3 mph.
Trimmed right out, the 186 was running an
impressive 47.8 mph at 5800 rpm. Even at that
speed, the tall windshield and the quiet four-stroke
Verado registered a mere 86 dbA on the sound
level meter.
The calm water conditions were hardly a challenge
for the Princecraft's deep-V hull, but we can
tell you that the boat gave a great sense of control
at all speeds, with light and precise steering, a solid
feel and the ability to turn right in very tight at
high speeds. The stern slides, but the stainless steel
prop really hangs on.
Not only is the Princecraft Super Pro 186 SE a
great fishing boat, it will also perform well for tubing
or slalom skiing - and you could even load it
down with people to make a respectable wake for
wakeboarding. It's a boat that requires few compromises!
