2007 Yamaha SX 210 Description
It's a rare thing to see a major company take

a totally new approach to boat design, but

that's what Yamaha has done with the introduction

of their 210 sport boats in both the SX

and AR configurations. While the SX offers

luxurious family comfort, the AR model is

equipped for the water sports enthusiast.

AR models include a wakeboard tower in

addition to the many other features shared with

the SX. Although we've all seen wakeboard

towers before, what makes Yamaha's 210 sport

boat such a remarkable new product is the radical

design at the stern and the use of twin

    Yamaha WaveRunner engines.

These exceptional engines use a jet pump

drive that mounts inside the boat, one on

either side and each with one of the 110-hp

VX110 engines. Designed from the ground

up for marine use, they are only 1,052-cc of

displacement each, but they have common

rail fuel injection, dual overhead cams, five

valves per cylinder and can race up to an 8000

rpm red line. They are also very compact.

    These remarkable power plants allowed

the designers to completely rethink the boat's

stern. The SX210 has a massive swim platform,

    walk-through transom and wraparound

interior seating. In fact, there appears to be no

engine box to intrude on interior space at all.

Including the spacious bow area, the innovative

layout makes this 21-foot Yamaha a ninepassenger

    boat.

The SX210 is full of great family runabout

features too. It boasts 70.6 cubic feet of storage,

so you can take all sorts of things with

    you. There's also a self-draining cooler under

the cockpit floor, more storage in the console,

a great slide-out door to the bow and plenty

of higher-end features, such as high-grade

    vinyl, MP3-ready satellite radio/CD, snap-out

carpeting, curved glass windshield and a very

    impressive helm.

This is truly a driver's boat. The twin

VX110 engines started easily and idled quietly

at only 73 dbA - remarkable since idle speed

is 1800 rpm. Ramming the throttles open, the

twin engines spin the tach needles up, planing

the boat off in only 4.5 seconds and reaching

the 8300 rpm maximum in under eight seconds.

Full throttle was a fairly ordinary 93

dbA and cruising at 25 mph we recorded 88

dbA. Top speed was 44.5 mph with four big

guys on board and more than half a tank of

fuel. This boat flies, responding instantly to

steering inputs, feeling solid and soft riding in

rough water and turning incredibly tight.

    The SX210 has a kind of Jekyll-and-Hyde

personality with an interior that says it's a spacious

family boat, but radical in design and

performance. The swim platform is very large

and finished in a "grippy" rubber surface, giving

you plenty of room to comfortably swim

or get in and out when waterskiing. And the

jet drives mean there is no lower unit or propeller

hanging where you jump in and out of

    the water.

The party on this boat is definitely on the

aft deck - there is even a stereo remote control

by the swim platform. Another innovative feature

is the second bow-mounted boarding ladder

in addition to the rear ladder. Because this

boat draws so little water, it's easy to beach

and you can climb in and out on the telescopic

    bow ladder.

Yamaha has really given you something

new to choose from with the SX 210!
