2007 Chris Craft 22 Launch Description
If you haven't been to a boat show in recent

years, you may not be familiar with some of

the most elegant fibreglass sport boats on the

    market today.

Topping the shortlist is Chris-Craft's Launch

22, one of three distinguished open bow models

built by this 131-year-old boat company. Given

its traditional exterior styling and modern-day

performance improvements, some have dubbed it

a retro rocket - as inspiring to drive as it is to look

    at.

Like its 25- and 28-foot sister Launches, the

22 is almost in a class of its own. Those familiar

with Chris-Craft's history can well appreciate the

passion that went into building this company. To

our good fortune, the tradition of excellence has

    carried into this decade.

The Launch 22 was created to meet the practical

needs of modern families. Bowriders are still

the most popular design on the water, but it's

often difficult to tell one from another. Chris-

Crafts are different. Engineered to meet the

demands of serious performance boaters, Chris-

    Craft employs modern-day construction techniques.

Because the 22 is positioned as a premium

sport boat, the quality of each component has not

    been compromised.

Inside and out, the 22 displays soft, classic,

    rounded lines. Complimenting an immaculate

gelcoat finish is a refined, plush interior, which

begs the question "Is it too nice for everyday use?"

The answer is "No." This boat is designed to

be pushed. Like a high-end luxury sedan, the

Chris-Craft tracks as if on rails and feels superbly

balanced at speed. Powered by MerCruiser's lively

300-hp 350 MAG MPI, the hull reacts instantly

to flicks of the steering wheel, instilling confidence

    in the driver.

On plane in a scant 3.2 seconds and staying

there at 19 mph and 2400 rpm, the Launch 22

pulls from 20 to 40 mph in just 5.9 seconds.

Accelerating like a smaller boat, the 22 is sure to

provide boaters of all ages with some thrills.

Spinning a 26" pitch Bravo III propeller, the

engine turned 5400 rpm to deliver a top speed of

    56.6 mph (on GPS).

Performance enthusiasts will admire how well

the 22 corners. Free of steps, the hull sets deliberately

when trimmed under and lifts controllably

as it exits the turn. Simply put, it is a fun, safe

    boat to drive.

At rest, or perhaps during a tranquil sunset

cruise, one can appreciate the 22's gracious design.

Looking forward towards its bold, softly sculpted

bow, the helm once again blends current technology

    with retro-styling featuring large, easy-to-read

    gauges.

Every seat in the boat is comfortable and conversational.

The configuration of the U-shaped aft

bench takes full advantage of the 22's wide, 8 foot,

6 inch beam, as do the densely padded seats in the

bow. For sun seekers, the centre cushion forward is

structurally well-supported and completely fills in

    this area.

Again, given the 22's generous proportions,

there are plenty of places to stow things. Aside

from the usual under-the-seat compartments, there

is a massive ski locker, in-floor cooler storage and a

lockable glove box that houses the audio system.

    Notably, Chris-Craft ingeniously engineered the

engine compartment to accommodate the boat's

    hideaway table and canvas.

Chris-Craft has virtually reinvented itself by

bringing back the upscale features that first made it

strong. Teak trim inserts, a heavy-duty rub rail and

each piece of high-quality hardware should not be

taken for granted. From its foredeck anchor locker

aft, the Launch 22 is, to say the least, enduringly

    fashionable.
