2007 G3 Boats LX325 CDLX Description
Pontoon boats have come a long way

from their origins as floating patios,

    offering basic features and amenities

and less than stellar performance and handling.

With the addition of a third log, these familyfriendly

boats can up their performance, showing

similar characteristics as that of a modified V-hull.

The Sun Catcher LX325 CDLX by G3 (a

Yamaha Boat Company) has taken pontoon performance

and luxury to a new level. Listed as a

25-foot model, the actual overall length is 31 feet,

11 inches (9.72 metres). When paired with a

beam of 104 inches (2.64 metres), this boat has

all the room you could want to entertain a crowd

on the water. From bow to stern, G3 has incorporated

luxury features and superb quality, like

plush 28-ounce marine carpet, to make this boat

    a leader in the category.

Forward, there is a large couch to starboard

with excellent 33-ounce vinyl upholstery that will

stand up for years. Like all of the seating, the base

is manufactured from roto-moulded plastic, with

rain drain scuppers that will keep all of your gear

dry and last a lifetime. To starboard, the LX325

moves up from the typical couch to a pair of fully

adjustable captains seats that match the helm

seat, providing excellent comfort at rest or underway.

A removal pedestal table that mounts fore or

aft is great for a snack or beverage while

    anchored.

Aft seating is a wraparound couch to port,

again with a large amount of dry storage capacity

as well as a 12-gallon aerated live well. Mid-ships,

ahead of the couch, is a refreshment centre with

sink, water, cutting board, ample storage and a

trash container. Under the stern sun pad, the Sun

Catcher has incorporated a pop-up privacy enclosure

with ample space for a porta-potty.

To starboard, the helm console features full

instrumentation, a stainless steel tilt wheel, a

standard Garmin fish finder and Sony satellite

radio-ready AM/FM CD stereo system. The

fully adjustable helm seat ensures a comfortable

position for any size of captain.

Construction on the LX325 is top notch

from the logs up as well. The U-shaped logs

have a higher volume than typical round logs

and incorporate floatation foam for added safety.

The nose cones on the logs are double-plated

for superior strength. The deck frame cross

members are through-bolted to the logs - a

method that is much stronger than welds. The

deck itself is seven-ply, marine-grade plywood

that carries a full warranty for 10 years.

Underway is where a triple-log pontoon

shines. The addition of the third log is all about

performance and the G3's lifting strakes and

high buoyancy get the boat up moving quickly

and efficiently. The LX325 is rated for a maximum

of 225 horsepower that bears this out.

Our test boat was powered by a Yamaha

F150 four-stroke - an extremely quiet and clean

    four-cylinder outboard. The motor incorporates

dual overhead cams and electronic fuel injection,

delivering excellent power and fuel efficiency.

Initial impressions when testing the Sun

Catcher LX325 and the Yamaha F150 were

great, with the package delivering an excellent

hole shot, getting to plane and beyond quickly.

Underway, the three logs cut through boat

wakes without pounding and handled turns

quite well, not leaning to the outside like a twin

log pontoon. However, where we couldn't get

the LX325 to shine was on top end. Our test

boat had just arrived and was launched without

time to dial in the correct prop. While we saw

speeds in and around 30 mph, the Yamaha only

    pulled 4500 rpm.

With a change in prop, this package should

push 40 mph, making the Sun Catcher LX325

CDLX a great family boat suitable for all kinds

of fun on the water - including just letting the

wind blow through your hair during a quick

    run up the lake.
