2007 Premier Pontoons Cast-A-Way 231 Description
With so many women in the workforce,

    family time together is more

precious than ever - and, of course,

mom is entitled to her day in the sun as much as

dad. In fact, mom may be just as enthusiastic

    about fishing.

With four basic types of pontoon boats,

Premier offers four variations of their sport pontoons.

    Our test boat was a Cast-A-Way 231,

which is 24 feet, 3 inches overall on an 8 foot, 6

inch beam and with a weight of 2,350 pounds.

Premier has designed the Cast-A-Way for serious

fishermen who don't want to give up comfort.

The boat is equipped for fishing with features like

two aerated live wells, two inner sprung Flexsteel

fishing chairs and a large rear-mounted fishing

    centre with bait well.

At the helm console is a handy sink for clean

ups and a clever paper towel dispenser. Vinyl

flooring with snap-out carpet is an option.

Other fishing features include a 27-gallon rear

live well, a 35-gallon live well forward and lockable

rod storage in the sides. I also include the

change area as a fishing feature because it allows

you to stay out longer. This private, fold-down

area has a porta-potty head; a vacuum flush system

is an option. It's a great way to extend your

    day.

The Bimini top seemed very solid and it offers

important sun protection for all. Our test boat

had the aft bench seat with removable picnic

table. The helm console with sink is handy for

mealtime and the Flexsteel helm seat swivels to

    join the party.

The Premier Cast-A-Way 231 offers such

details as specially angled speakers for better sound

from the Kenwood stereo and easy access articulated

seat base hinges so that the lid can fold

straight down for better access. In fact, Premier

designed the seats to drain rainwater overboard or

squirt it out as you sit down. The seat storage

areas have ribs to lift stored items up out of the

    water.

Premier also offers toe space under the seats

with foot lighting, which is really nice at night.

The forward seat has a trash locker built in.

Another feature I like is the rubber gasket on the

underfloor locker that helps deaden noise.

At the stern is a five-step boarding ladder for

people who like to swim or ski with their boats.

There is a seven ski locker and a new ski bar is

offered for 2007. It's taller to clear larger motors

like our test boat's 200 hp Suzuki. You can even

get a wakeboard tower making this a really universal

    boat.

Thanks to the three tube configuration, the

Cast-A-Way 231 has a universal level of performance

too. The hull edges are bevelled to help bank

into turns. The design works. As fast as the very

quiet Suzuki 200 is, I could crank the wheel over

at full throttle until the propeller cavitated and the

boat stayed comfortable and controllable. Part of

the credit goes to the Teleflex Sea Star hydraulic

steering, but this is a great design. I recorded a top

speed of 43 mph and very strong acceleration -

great for skiing. At high speeds, the 231 holds its

bow up nicely to deal with rough water and the

three tube design delivers a nice ride.

If you have a lot of interests to satisfy but you

can only have one boat, the Premier Cast-A-Way

    231 may be the answer.
