2006 Premier Pontoons Premier Legend 250 PTX Description
Something new has been added to pontoon boats; some models have a third pontoon which when mounted in the center and gives a pontoon boat performance similar to a vee bottom. Premier was one of the first to pioneer this innovation and we tried it out in their 250 Legend PTX model powered by a Suzuki DF 200.

We've all seen pontoon boats gliding serenely across our lakes but they are not all the same. Premier Marine Inc. from Wyoming, Minnesota builds their line of pontoon boats to NMMA and ABYC certified specifications. The quality features of our test boat became apparent as soon as we stepped on board. The swing-open side gate latches, both open and closed and it leads into the usual vast expanse of flat interior floor that you would find on any pontoon boat. From there, it's what you do with it. Premier covers it in a rubberized coating and then adds snap-in carpet.

The seats are all heavily upholstered and are built using roto cast plastic rather than wood framing. The seats are self-draining and have a number of noteworthy features. In several places, the seats have an angled backrest to act as a lounge chair and the backrest is hinged upwards revealing handy trash locker inside. Interiors are drained and shaped to keep life jackets and other items out of the rain water. Another feature is the lift-out center section in the bow. When it's in place, the entire bow seat is one large U-shaped seating area but the center section can be lifted out and placed elsewhere, like in the side door or even on the dock, depending on your desire. Removing it gives access to the forward gate leading to the front deck.

Premier rates the 250 Legend for up to 15 passengers; an astonishing load of family and friends! In addition to the front seats there is an L-shaped sun lounge on the port side while the helm is to starboard. The helm seat is by Flexsteel and features adjustable armrests, plush padding and adjustments for height, reach and the reclining backrest. With the standard equipment tilt wheel, any captain will find a comfortable position. The test boat had a full array of Faria gauges, hooded to ward off reflections from the sun. A lot of effort has gone into the helm position in this boat.

Several convenience features are included as well, such as a cooler that stores under the binnacle, a Bimini top and even an 8 gallon fresh water wash down to protect boats used in salt water. At the stern of the Legend is a full height changing room. You simply grab the front edge, lift straight up and it becomes a six-foot plus enclosure where you can change into a bathing suit and a Porta-Potti is included while a full pump out type MSD is also available.

The exterior features show some good thinking with a stainless steel boarding ladder that has five steps to get deep into the water. That way older people are able to hop on without difficulty. The side rails have spacers to better drain the decks after a rain and at the bow, the running lights and mooring lights have been built-in rather than stuck on, leaving your decking area clear and minimizing the risk that your lights could be damaged when docking.

But what left us laughing with glee is the performance with the PTX three tube layout and the big Suzuki 200. Try 0 - 20 in 4.23 seconds and a top seed of 40 mph at 5,500 rpm. More amazing, this nearly 25 foot pontoon rides bow high, smashes through waves and banks into a turn like a sport boat. It was hilarious to see the looks on people's faces as we blew past them - the big Suzuki in full song. It's the fastest patio I have ever driven.
