2006 Princecraft Princecraft Super Pro 196 Platinum Description
One thing I suspect you will admire about the Princecraft Super Pro 196 Platinum is the fit and finish. From the padded swivel seats to the workmanship that goes into the finish, every detail seems well thought out and geared to deliver that perfect day on the water fishing or just having fun.

Powered by a Mercury Verado 175 our test Super Pro 196 Platinum performed admirably. With its deep vee hull, the boat cut through any form of chop I encountered from other boat's wakes and it tracked exactly where I directed it no matter how tight the turn or high the speed. The new Mercury Verado was very quiet as we cruised at 26mph registering only 78dbA on the sound meter. At top speed the sound meter read 84 dbA which is impressively quiet for an outboard of this size on an aluminium hull. The acceleration of the Super Pro was also very respectable considering the 1,500 lb hull weight. From a standing start, I reached 30 mph in just over 6 seconds. The new Mercury Verado has the option of the well designed SmartCraft gauges to monitor the engine. They are a worthwhile addition.

The Super Pro 196 I tested had an upgraded reclining captain's chair with adjustable armrests instead of the fold down swivel seats that were in the other two primary seat locations. Within the boat there are six floor bases so the seats can be moved around in the boat to allow people to fish from different areas. There is one base in the bow on the raised casting platform, four in the main cockpit area and one on the aft raised casting platform in front of the outboard motor.

Princecraft has made clever use of the casting platforms. Underneath the aft casting platform, is a battery storage area and a live well. When not being used for a casting platform, the aft area converts to a 60/40 convertible full width rear bench seat. Under the bow raised casting platform there is an anchor storage compartment, ice chest, another live well and a removable bow casting deck insert (with the floor base) to quickly convert the boat into a standard bowrider for family cruising. For the fisherman, the boat comes with a Lowrance X-52 fish/depth meter, a lockable rod storage compartment, and a 24V deluxe bow trolling motor panel with plug and receptacle, tilt switch and wiring harness. The live well in the bow and the aft have a timed-aeration and recirculation system with remote control thru hull drain. In the rear live well, there is also a removable minnow basket. I noticed throughout the cockpit area that there are a number of grab handles along with stainless steel grab rails in the bow area and cup holders for boater's safety and convenience.

The Super Pro 196 Platinum comes with a twin console layout and a walk-through curved windshield. With the centre section closed, you are nicely protected from the elements. The helm features a plastic molded dash with wood grain trim. The steering wheel tilts to allow for easy access in and out of the helm seat. The radio is an AM/FM stereo with CD player and 4 waterproof speakers. Included in the instrumentation are 5 gauges (tachometer, speedometer, trim, fuel and voltmeter). Although our test boat had a trolling motor mounting pad as standard, the motor was not fitted for us to see how the boat responds and how comfortable the setup is. Too bad because the deep vee design should move easily and track a shoal or underwater ledge with good accuracy.

Overall, this is a premium quality all around family fish and ski boat with few equals for versatility. We especially liked the removable bow casting area that converts to a bowrider family space and the bench seat across the back.Whether you want a leisurely lake cruiser or a serious fishing machine that can streak along at 53mph, check out the Super Pro 196 Platinum.
