Hot rods don't appeal to everybody. Many performance enthusiasts like their machines to look refined, even subdued.They prefer to let the performance do the talking rather than muscle-bound trappings.
Strong and silent types will appreciate Yamaha's approach with the new 2004 FX Cruiser High Output. While its colour scheme has yet to be announced,if it looks anything like its FX High Output dockmate, it's going to be another wolf in sheep's clothing.
Inside the tame exterior sits a new fourstroke, in-line, four-cylinder, 20-valve high output motor with a 1052-cc displacement. It's teamed with a 155 mm High-Press axial flow single stage jet pump and three-blade stainless steel impeller. When you consider that the FX Cruiser, with its ultra lightweight sheetmoulded compound hull, weighs in at just 772 pounds,the motor's 160 hp provides an impressive power-to-weight ratio.
But there is more to the Cruiser than just performance; there's also a whole lot of comfort. Riders will appreciate the adjustable tilt steering, sumptuously padded stepped seat and dual cup holders. The remote operated low-rpm mode, an industry first, is also a nice touch. Owners have the ability to reduce the craft's speed from the driver's seat or on shore.
Another innovation of merit is the Yamaha Engine Management system, which controls the OTS ignition timing and fuel injection.What it all adds up to is a craft that has terrific fuel economy,super yet manageable speed and enough comforts to make long cruises a popular pastime.
The 2004 FX Cruiser High Output is the kind of craft that can please the whole family - speed freaks, water skiers and Sunday drivers alike.
