Pontoon boats have grown in popularity and offer a unique boating experience when compared to regular fibreglass runabouts.
From Premiers luxury pontoon lineup, our test boat was the 25-foot Intrigue PTX powered by a Suzuki 250 four-stroke, a perfectmarriage of power and technology. At idle, the engine was barely noticeable at 70 decibels and made for very enjoyable cruising thanks to Suzukis naturally aspirated four-stroke technology.
When it was time to hit the throttle, the power was right atmy fingertips and very responsive from cruising to top speed. Premiers patented PTX triple tube technology, a specially designed centre pontoon with a flat profile and lifting strakes, drastically improved overall stability and performance. At a stand still, the PTX sits taller on the water, creates an immediate sense of stability and does not seem to submerge when you load it up because of weight being dispersed over the larger surface area. This alsomeans little to no bow rise in the 3.13 seconds to plane.
When put through its paces, the boat went from0 to 30 mph in just seven seconds, cutting quietly through the chop with very stable handling characteristics, level controllable cornering and next to no banking.
With a very long list of standard equipment, this boat featured an accessible stern boarding ladder flowing into the pop-up sundeck change room. The rear L-shaped seating was open to the helmand complete with removable table, modular dividers with integrated cup holders and plenty of storage under all benches with easy one-handed operation due to their patented J-Clip hinge.
The captains chair, situated high on the optional Imperial Command ViewHelm, gave this 5-foot, 8-inch driver an unobstructed birds eye view of the waterway over any passengers forward. The bow area came complete with two adjacent swivelling captains chairs and removable table opposite a great daybed-style bench. The centrally located fridge and sink were easily accessible and the concealed garbage and paper towel dispenser rounded out the helmgalley nicely. The cavernous lockable infloor ski locker will easily fit all your watersports equipment.
When powered properly, the PTX handles more like a deckboat and has the ability to change your view of pontoons. Optional equipment like the stainless ski tow bar and a variety of enclosures can make for some very enjoyable recreation. Just add water.
