Godfrey Marine, the parent company of Polar Kraft Boats, has come up with a fairly simple equation for success figure out who you are building boats for and then fill your vessels with features that will follow suit. If the slogan Built for Fish Heads doesnt give away the inspiration behind the design, a quick walk through the Polar Kraft Outlander V163 TC definitely will.
With an overall length of 16 feet, 6 inches, the V163 TC will not be the biggest boat on the lake, but it is big on storage. Polar Kraft does a great job on keeping the boat organized and free of clutter. Both port and starboard sides have locking rod storage to keep walkways clear, and there is more storage under the aft casting deck.
Rated for a maximum of 115 hp, our test boat came equipped with a 90-hp Evinrude ETec two-stroke. Once out on the water, it became evident the V163 TC and the 90 were a perfect fit. With the aid of four lifting strakes under the V-force hull, the hole shot to 10 mph was a nimble three seconds, and we were up at a comfortable cruise of 25 mph from idle in just over five seconds.
The V163 TC provided a smooth, dry ride, and the handling was incredible. Polar Krafts are built with a reverse chine that provides sharp response. The small, winding river we had to navigate during our test offered the perfect opportunity for the boat to demonstrate just this, as it tracked with ease.
Back at the dock, I continued to be impressed with the amount of storage at the bow, which included an aerated live well and baitwell. There is also plenty of room for a trolling motor, and the tough vinyl interior will handle any mess a fishing excursion may throw at it.
So when Polar Kraft says their boats are Built for Fish Heads, the Outlander V163 TC proves they are not just talking the talk, but walking the walk.
