2008 Starcraft Limited 1915 OB Description
These days, savvy family runabout buyers seem to be flocking to deckboats – an ideal compromise between sleek but often cramped bowriders and clunky but always comfortable pontoons.
Some deckboats are, however, little more than bowriders with more voluminous bow sections and increased bow flare that makes room for a deeper, squared-off forward compartment. The best of the breed, though, start with the design intention of maximizing cockpit space and convenience. They provide lots of lounging space, water access fore and aft, and a good
    space-to-cost ratio.
Starcraft’s Limited 1915 OB goes a step further. It makes maximum use of its 8 foot, 6 inch beam with narrow gunwales that leave more cockpit space, builds in a huge lounge to port that brings fore and aft spaces together, and
uses outboard power. An outboard may limit the size of the swim platform, but pays great dividends by taking up much less usable cockpit space than its sterndrive counterparts.
The direct-fuel-injection, two-stroke 115 Mercury OptiMax outboard on the test boat also weighs less than the conventional fourstroke outboard or sterndrive alternatives. That not only makes the boat easier to tow on the
trailer, it’s also easier to drive on the water due to a better power-to-weight ratio.
On the test boat, this translated into adequate acceleration (0-20 mph in 7.6 seconds and 0-30 mph in 11.3 seconds) and an ideal top speed (40.5 mph at 5,000 rpm) for a family runabout. Wakeboarding speeds are between
3000 rpm, where the boat planes nicely at 16.3 mph, and 3500 rpm, where the boat runs at 25.5 mph. Swim platforms and telescoping boarding ladders fore and aft will make it easy for skiers, boarders and swimmers to get back
    onboard.
If you want to stretch out, there’s plenty of room with an enormous curving bench seat to port and another to starboard, ending with a lounge-style seatback just in front of the helm console. The helm seat has a lifting bolster seat bottom and there’s a broad bench seat aft. To help entertain the crowd this boat is capable of handling, there’s a sink moulded into the helm console, a portable 36-quart cooler lodged beneath the port-side bench seat and a
SeaWorthy stereo. A removable table converts the bow area into a comfortable open-air dining space.
Snap-in carpet adds comfort, while the yellow hull colour, coordinated upholstery and stylish helm layout add panache, and the suggested list price ($29,500 with a colour-coordinated trailer) adds value.
If you’re wondering why more boaters are moving to deckboats, the Starcraft Limited 1915 OB provides a good explanation.
