2002 Mastercraft X-10 Description
The face of watersports has changed.
The hard truth? Dad’s bowrider simply isn’t capable of producing the type of wake, wash and consistent punch that a “real” skiboat offers, not to mention specialized cockpit.
Even MasterCraft, an icon of the skiboat world, has certain models that just don’t cut it. For athletes with extreme needs (and supportive parents who recognize value) the X-10 was born – and ain’t she sweet.
This is one tough wakeboard machine, big and bad to the bone, at 20 ft, 9 in. long, 95 in. wide, weighing 3,075 lb.
Extreme activities call for extreme features. MasterCraft’s triple KGB (Keel-Line Gravity Ballast System ) adds weight to the boat and girth to the wake. What’s this mean? The hull incorporates three ballast tanks that can hold or dump water by activating switches near the helm. When the tanks are full, the boat is heavier, pushes more water and throws a bigger wave. Big waves mean big air.
Owning an X-10 means friends will come out of the woodwork, so MasterCraft designed a form-fitting, wrap-around seating plan.
The observer’s seat faces aft, and behind its seat back lies a huge gear locker. The driver’s bolster seat has a solid one-piece rotocast frame and adjusts fore and aft. Helm instrumentation includes a speedometer calibrator switch, Lowrance 3500 depthsounder, MasterCraft identified gauges, engine and “drain-plug out” warning lights. The accessory switches have on/off indicator lights, handy for knowing whether or not the ballast tanks are filled.
The cockpit is totally carpeted. A cockpit table is  optional. For tunes, MasterCraft installs a high-quality Clarion Marine CD/stereo system. Looking  up at the magnificent ZeroFlex flyer tower you’ll see two custom designed Cerwin Vega speakers and a high-tech light bar that will help you ski ’til the sun goes down.
Both hull and motor contribute to efficient performance. Powered by MasterCraft’s 310 hp, 5.7 L EFI  Vortec MX Predator, the X-10 pulls like a team of horses. As it planes in a blink  (2.8 seconds), the bow lifts momentarily, then levels out in four distinctive stages – one, two, three, flat. The hull does not porpoise.
Low and mid-range punch: 20 to 30 mph takes just three seconds, 20 to 40 mph takes six seconds. Beginning with 25 mph at 2,500 rpm, the hull’s speed matches rpm almost number for number throughout its power curve, topping out at 46.7 mph at 4,800 rpm on GPS. Oddly, the speedometer read slower, indicating 45 mph at full throttle.
The X-10 decelerates as well as it accelerates, slowing from 25 mph to a stop in 6.3 seconds, and from 45 mph  to 0 in 8.1 seconds. The hull tracks with precision, turns on a dime and gives change. We tested the hull with ballast tanks full and empty. The difference in acceleration times falls within 10ths a second.
Of course, MasterCraft’s real magic happens astern, where wakes peak with minimal wash. Compared with most wakeboard boats, the X-10 has a deeper V, so it eats sloppy water, smooths it out, churns it up and spits out wakes for boarders to rip. All this and it rides nice too. What a package!
